As I was saying...

And so it is Friday and I am officially fired up for June 25th in Coeur D'Alene. First things first though, I have a great practice race on May 7th that I think will be a perfect amount of time to spend a few recovery days and then hammer until taper weeks. It's called the NJ Devilman and it's a Half-Ironman, of course I couldn't just do 1 triathlon this year so I threw this in there and an Olympic one on June 12th. Really I'm using these just for open water swim practice now that I have a full wet suit (which I've never used before and am way excitd to do) and bike-run transition practice. Anyway, back to Coeur D'Alene, I think I have word from my youngest bro that he is going to go with me to the race, major props to you Mikey...I think once you see what the hype is all about you'll be on a course within a year, GUARANTEED! Get ready brotha! And we'll be flying into Montana a week before the race to stay with some buddies and then drive to Coeur D'Alene on Fri. morning for the Sun. race. Where will stay you ask? None other than the KOA 7 miles from the race start! How sweet is that! Not in a tent but in one of their "luxurious" Kamping Kabins. I can't wait! And then the Monday after we'll hop a flight out of Spokane to LA to spend our last week of summer vacation at Manhattan Beach! Nothing beats a week of recovery like a little boogie boarding down in So. Cal.
The past 2 weeks have been real good for training...not as much swimming as I would have liked but (11,500 yards) but got in 250 actual road miles, 3 hours on the trainer, 45.5 miles running, but only 45 minutes of lifting...that's OK though and really my legs feel good, a little fatigued but no ailments, so it's all good here in this B-more hood. Needless to say, lots of VERY early mornings and late nights. Also, I got a mini-physical here at my office this morning to make sure my weight/body fat/lean mass/etc. are progressing the right way. I weighed a whopping 184 with 5.4% body fat and like 171 lbs. of lean mass. Better than the same exact time last year! I think I'll be pounding a few more snickers to keep the weight up! We have one of those Bod-Pod machines that look like a giant egg and it calculates everything, it's unbelievable.
And Mikey, I'm golfing Mon. afternoon so don't be nervous about our tourney. Another item on the training agenda is golf. We have our 6th annual Fassel Boys Golf Tourney May 19-21 so I gotta get in a few rounds...since I am the defending champ I have a lot at stake. The trophy WILL remain in Baltimore another year. We have a GIANT trophy the yearly winner gets to keep, it's looks good in my pad! Oh ya, and I'll see if I can squeeze in some work around this play schedule also...hahahahahahaha. Man that Snickers was good yesterday! BigPurple Out!

Why Wait?

It's been one of those days at the office where I've been on call for a meeting to finish before I get called in so i busted out a Snickers, hence the Why Wait title...OK, wow, I got called to the meeting and we were in there for a couple hours and now I'm back...also after I just got don with my 75 minute run. What a nice day here, that's some sweet nectar! And I got in a 90 minute spin this morning, some high intensity work...fun though! So you know what, right now I'm really hungry and ready to head home so all my blog posse out there will have to wait until tomorrow for this huge, awesome blog report I had planned to write. Ah, something to look forward too anyway...BigPurple is out! No really, I have some exciting stuff to write, see ya menyawna like they used to say in New Mexico!

The password is...

A little while back I got Sirius Radio hooked up in my car and it took me too long to discover my new favorite station, actually it hasn't changed for at least 2 weeks. I must say to Larry the Cable Guy, "I'm not worthy". So ya, Blue Collar Comedy has found it's way into the 4-Runner and it could be there for a long time. I made my way to the University of Virginia for work the past few days (reason for lack of postings), man what a great campus and while I was driving back through DC and Baltimore I discovered for the first time in a long time, road rage. Oh my gosh Becky, the traffic jam was like so big. And all I could think about is when/if I make it home I'm goin' for what some would call a workout, I prefer to call it an adventure. I had hours to ponder my route and length and nutrition...and then I thought, if I wasn't doing triathlon what would diminish my road rage? So I passed the DUI stop, the truck fire, and the bridge stop for an elevated terror alert and made it home by 4:30 and I thought, sweet, at least 3 hours to ride and run. Fast forward an hour and I'm in the Hill/Farm country of Baltimore following my newly discovered road termed Steeple Chase Country (not my term but a continuous road sign term). If you've never been to surrounding Baltimore it's constant winding hills with no shoulders and disgruntled drivers...which makes for great for training but poor for Average MPH but today I didn't care. It was 77% and real humid (already), traffic was in the rear view mirror, there was the fresh sweet smell of warming manure, and I was training but didn't know it. Oh ya, major props to my first 2 bloggers to comment...one just finished his 1st Ironman in Arizona in less than 13 hours! The other just crushed her age group competition in a Sprint Tri and was welcomed home to a whole bunch of dog poop on the floor...but you didn't care huh, it's Tri's way of saying, "I will cure any fellings of rage you have, come with me". Did I mention I love Larry the Cable Guy?

Fortune Cookie

Well, I'm going to give this a shot and see what happens. If all I do is write and get no response at least I'll feel like I'm keeping a journal for myself. Anyways, last night I ordered some chinese food which never tasted so good considering I had just gotten done with a nice 50 mile ride and post ride lift...and it was already almost 8pm. I usually can't go more than 3 hours without eating and here only a GU gel had sustained me since lunch. But the best part about chinese food is the dessert. MY FORTUNE COOKIE! And of course you can only have 1 fortune a night so I was excited for my cookie, not necessarily the cookie part but what's inside...kinda like cracker jacks. You know, the popcorn and peanuts are good but really you buy cracker jacks for the sticker or hologram or lick and stick tattoo. So I busted out my fortune and I decided I'm going to start a diary of fortunes...and if anyone has a fortune to share I would love to hear it. My said, in total appropriateness for my love of the ocean, "You cannot stop the waves, but you can learn to surf". I was like shucky ducky, I understand. I guess you can translate however you want but I figured hey, there's so many things out thereI can't control, things that could make you want to quit or run and hide but you just gotta find a way to adjust and move on...kinda like the saying goes, "if life give you lemons, make lemonade." SO I think I've found a new hobby to go along with my Tri training...fortune cookie telling!
